MUSIC: Jay-Z Detractor Cops Pleas, Oasis Front Man Says Comments “Taken The Wrong Way”

Noel Gallagher

What I had meant to say was. That’s what Oasis front man Noel Gallagher should have say right after the comments he made regarding Jay-Z headlining the Glastonbury Festival. Instead, he’s copping pleas now.

“I wasn’t saying I was better than Jay-Z as a person or rock was greater than hip-hop as a thing or whatever it is,” Gallagher told NME. “I said what I said, and it was wrong, or it was taken wrong, and now all this.”

Originally, Gallagher commented on Jay-Z being chosen as the first rap act to head up the musical event.

“I’m sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance. Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music … I’m not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It’s wrong.”

Hov not only brought the house down, but he also brought the Brit down to Earth when he entered the stage. Jay-Z walked on stage with a guitar and sang the opening notes of an Oasis song to the cheers of man. The rapper even roasted Gallagher in the opening lines of his new track “Jockin’ Jay-Z,” which he premiered last week with Kanye West at Madison Square Garden.

“That bloke from Oasis said I can’t play guitar/ Somebody should have told him I’m a fucking Roc star.”

Gallagher, however, has no plans to respond.

“For my own part I can sit here and say I never dissed that guy,” he explained. “I never would. But there’s no point in going on about it, because you end up sounding like Heather Mills: ‘I said this! I meant that!’ I’ll have a beer with him one day and it’ll all be fine.”
