According to the designer, Balfour, the 2008 World Championship rings are made of 14-karat white gold. They’re reportedly worth about $30,000 each.
Here are more details, courtesy of Balfour:
Overall, the ring contains a combination of 92 diamonds and emeralds for a total weight of nearly 9cts of gemstones.
The top of the ring features a genuine emerald shamrock, which was created with three custom-cut 8mm heart-shaped emeralds and three custom-cut baguette emeralds on the stem.
The shamrock is surrounded by 64 pave set diamonds.
The bezel is set with 20 princess cut diamonds and there is a 0.10ct diamond in the Larry O’Brien Trophy on the shank of the ring.
The ring features “Banner 17″ on one shank, to commemorate the Celtics 17th NBA Championship.
The word “Ubuntu,” the team’s mantra during the 2007-2008 season, is on the other shank. Doc Rivers initiated the saying by borrowing the African word (pronounced Ooh-BOON-too). It roughly means “I am, because we are” in English.
The backgrounds of each shank mimic the team’s iconic parquet floor.
Team patriarch Red Auerbach’s signature is engraved on the inside of the ring.
Each player has his name and number, as well as the team’s record, 66-16, included on their ring.
