WWEWrestleMania 25

PREDICTIONS MADE BY:

Marverson

Erniel Vincente

Ricardo Mejias

Donnovan ‘Baby X’ Fernandes

Ricky From The Chi

Intercontinental Champion JBL vs. Rey Mysterio

Intercontinental Champion JBL vs. Rey Mysterio

Marverson: This match hasn’t really developed into a real feud, and Rey got a non title pin on JBL on Raw … JBL will end Mysterio’s hopes with a big clothesline from hell and retire with the belt. WINNER: JBL

Erniel Vicente: I don’t like how they just threw these two together at the last minute, and the fact that Rey just beat JBL on Raw.  So I’m going with JBL on this one. WINNER: JBL

Ricardo Mejias: With not much buildup and I think this match was just put together just to have these two wrestle at WM.  I can’t see Mysterio winning. My pick is JBL. WINNER: JBL

Baby X: Umm I say Mysterio will win. This is just a guess. Maybe JBL will fill Tazz’s shoes (return to color commentary on SmackDown!). WINNER: Rey Mysterio

Ricky From The Chi: I’m just glad that they brought back the Intercontinental championship as an actual title defense at ‘Mania.  The last one I believe was at WrestleMania X8 in Toronto.   I’ve heard all these rumors that this is JBL’s retirement match but for some reason, I can’t see him walking away that easily.  The big Texan is in the best shape of his career, so another heel run at the top wouldn’t be such a bad idea.  I see Rey Rey winning the strap but this is definitely not the last time we see JBL compete in the ring. WINNER: Rey Mysterio

Money In The Bank Ladder Match

Money in the Bank Ladder Match

Marverson: A lot of hopefuls but gotta give it to Christian … dark horse pick – Kofi Kingston. WINNER: Christian or Kofi Kingston

Erniel Vicente: I’ve watched these guys battle each other in tag team matches every week and there doesn’t seem to be a clear cut winner who has always had the upper hand. I wanted M.V.P. to win, but then he won the U.S. Championship so I don’t think he’ll get it.   So I’m going to go with Christian, so he can challenge Edge in the future. WINNER: Christian

Ricardo Mejias: This match has always been entertaining and always delivers on match quality. Though, I know I need to pick one, it’s quite tough, I having a feeling it’s either going to be Christian, MVP, or Benjamin but I also got a weird feeling its going to be Finlay. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that Finaly was the last one standing a couple of times more than the others. If I were to chose one, I would have to go with MVP and continue his winning streak.  WINNER: M.V.P.

Baby X: I am guessing Mark Henry (out of all the participants he deserves it the best). Or Christian. WINNER: Mark Henry or Christian

Ricky From The Chi: This one is quite different, 2 heavyweights (Kane, Mark Henry) will be competing in a ladder match – this could be interesting or yet boring to watch. They also got 4 brothers from the hood all in one match which is refreshing to see (MVP, Shelton Benjamin, Kofi Kingston, Henry).  Realistically I’d like to see Christian win this thing, his return to the WWE after a 3-year hiatus has been less than stellar. But I’m not ruling out CM Punk as the first one to ever win multiple Money In The Bank matches. WINNER: CM Punk

Chris Jericho vs. WWE Legends

Chris Jericho vs. ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper, ‘Superfly’ Jimmy Snuka and Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat

Marverson: Looks like Jericho is out numbered but he won’t be out wrestled … crippling these Hall of Famers will put Jericho over the top. WINNER: Chris Jericho

Erniel Vicente: This match had a great build up and I wanted to see what Jericho was going to do every week on Raw. I was hoping that after a beat down, Stone Cold would come out and kick Jericho’s ass that would lead to a match between Stone Cold and Jericho, but we’re left with this match. Hopefully Stone Cold does come out and kicks Jericho’s ass anyway.
WINNER: Chris Jericho

Ricardo Mejias: I was very interested in the feud in the beginning and with the stellar promos by Jericho, Flair, Steamboat and Piper. I thought for sure we would get something a bit better. I’m not too excited in seeing Snuka and Piper in the match. I was hoping for another legend. Well, anyways, I think the trio will win with the help of Flair and Rourke. WINNER: WWE Legends

Baby X: I think the Legends will gang up on Jericho. I hope to have a few surprise legends interfere. If you noticed Jericho was sitting with the executives for the Hall Of Fame.  He is in and is the future of the sport.  WINNER: Chris Jericho

Ricky From The Chi: Chris Jericho has had the best post WrestleMania 24 run of any active wrestler. He won the World Heavyweight title twice after being featured in a program with Shawn Michaels last year. His current program has him feuding with 3 Legends as well as Ric Flair and Mickey Rourke at ringside. I expect Jericho to generate lots of heel heat during this match and I predict Mr. Rourke will end up sucker punching him after the match. WINNER: Chris Jericho

WWE Tag Team Champions vs. World Tag Team Champions (Unified Tag Team Championship Lumberjack Match)

WWE Tag Team Champions vs. World Tag Team Champions (Unified Tag Team Championship Lumberjack Match)

Marverson: This match shouldn’t happen if WWE utilizes its talent for potential gold … and we’ve seen this dance many times … Miz and Morrison I think are the only wrestlers to appear on all three brands at once … but I also give them win … this match most likely will take place as a dark match … and if I had it my way, I would give it a no contest and keep the tag titles in their respected brands …WINNERS: Miz and Morrison

Erniel Vicente: They should have saved the ending to their match a couple of weeks ago when Carlito reversed Morrison’s suplex in mid-air and turned it into a back cracker for their Wrestlemania match. But since they’re not going to end it like that again, I going with the future, Miz and Morrison. WINNERS: Miz and Morrison

Ricardo Mejias: I think this was a smart move, the lack of tag teams in the WWE and WWE not caring that much may actually help this division out. With more teams fighting for one tag belt it makes things more interesting. Now, the matches have been pretty good, but this fued has lacked that spark. Hopefully, this match turns out to be outstanding. My pick is The Miz and John Morrison. WINNERS: Miz and Morrison

Baby X: Miz and Morrison will win. They make a really good tag team. I think Primo and Carlito should feud after ‘Mania. WINNERS: Miz and Morrison

Ricky From The Chi: This match is your washroom break match. I do think that it’s a good idea to unify the titles because with the way the booking/story lines are going, tag teams have less importance more than ever. So it will be good to see one tag team champion fight on all shows (Raw, SmackDown!, ECW). It will be good to see some of the lumberjacks in this match…Many of them had potential to be in their own featured matches at ‘Mania, but I guess there was not enough TV time for everyone. I think Miz and Morrison are going to break up after this match and go on to decent singles runs later this year. WINNERS: Carlito and Primo Colon

Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy (Extreme Rules Match)

Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy (Extreme Rules Match)

Marverson: There wasn’t much interaction between the two in recent weeks … and Jeff is more experienced in the extreme field, but I’d give the win to a much stronger Matt. WINNER: Matt Hardy

Erniel Vicente: As much as I like having Matt Hardy heel, I still believe that Christian vs. Jeff Hardy would have been a better match for WrestleMania. Or even better, a Jeff Hardy and Christian vs. Matt Hardy and Edge in a TLC match would have been money. But since that’s not going to happen, I see Jeff winning so that they can both move on to other feuds. WINNER: Jeff Hardy

Ricardo Mejias: I could see this going either way. It could certainly steal the show. My pick to win this is Jeff Hardy but I wouldn’t be surprised if Matt won, and maybe this feud continues till SummerSlam. WINNER: Jeff Hardy

Baby X: I think some how Matt will win. Jeff is clearly the popular one. A win over Jeff will not ruin the popularity of Jeff. However will give Matt a good push. I think this will be match of the night. WINNER: Matt Hardy

Ricky From The Chi: This match probably should have been at next year’s WrestleMania, given Jeff Hardy’s huge singles push over the past year. Right when he got the coveted WWE title strap, they took the gold off of him and put him into a program with his brother. This is going to be the Marty Jennetty/Shawn Michaels dream match that never happened. I think this program goes all the way into July and maybe even culminating at SummerSlam. With Extreme Rules at stake, I’m wondering if the PG rated WWE will let us see some color flow (blood) during this match. I’ll be looking for the big Jeff Hardy bump/spot that will seal the deal on this match – but I believe this will only be the beginning of a long term feud for the next few months. WINNER: Jeff Hardy

25 Divas Battle Royale

25-Diva Battle Royal

Marverson: Currently, WWE has a lot of divas on their roster … I would had put more veteran divas than those who don’t wrestle … My choice for Ms. WrestleMania would be Trish Stratus if she came back … but on the roster, the Glamazon Beth Phoenix. WINNER: Trish Stratus or Beth Phoenix

Erniel Vicente: I don’t know who is going to be crowned Miss WrestleMania, but all I’m looking forward to is how Santino Mirella will steal the spotlight, just like he did on this past Raw. WINNER: Sunny

Ricardo Mejias: Well, this is one of the matches I’m most looking forward to. 25 lovely ladies in one ring, could it get any better then that? The answer is no. My pick to win it is Gail Kim. I think it’s a great way to get her back in the spotlight. WINNER:  Gail Kim

Baby X: Trish will win. WINNER: Trish Stratus

Ricky From The Chi: This should be interesting to watch. Can you say eye candy? There will be some really hot ladies in sexy outfits past and present representing the female division. There should be a nice comedy spot with Santino Mirella participating in this match. Who’s going to win the crown for Miss WrestleMania? I’d have to say it’s too easy to say Trish Stratus will win. So I’ll go with someone who’s currently active on the roster and could be a factor for years to come…WINNER: Mickie James

World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. John Cena vs. Big Show (Triple Threat Match)

World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. John Cena vs. Big Show (Triple Threat Match)

Marverson: It seems obvious to give Cena the title since he also has a WM win streak, including a win over Big Show a few years ago … which will lead Show and Edge having their own feud over Vickie Guerrero … but I chose Big Show to win the title … he’s been long over due since his return to WWE over a year ago. WINNER: Big Show

Erniel Vicente: I am not a fan of triple threat matches because they usually have some cheap ending with the heel gaining the victory. I’m hoping that John Cena doesn’t win, so either Edge or Big Show would be a better choice. But, I’m going to go with Big Show so that he can become a monster heel with Vickie by his side. WINNER: Big Show

Ricardo Mejias: Well, I think the most logical thing for the WWE to do is, have Cena win the belt and have Edge and Big Show feud after WrestleMania. So my pick is Cena. WINNER: John Cena

Baby X: I think Edge retains the belt. That’s just a guess. WINNER: Edge

Ricky From The Chi: All 3 participants have had previous histories with one another so this kind of match up doesn’t say much. The writers added the storyline with Vickie Guerrero getting it on with the Big Show to add a twist. And I also heard that Cena was originally supposed to fight Hulk Hogan but he had emergency back surgery which screwed up that booking situation. So that pretty much explains why Cena was thrown into the mix for this match…I’m not looking forward to a Cena or Edge win, I think Big Show should somehow find a way to get the W and the World Heavyweight strap – he’s due for some sort of decent push after 10 years with the company. WINNER: Big Show

Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker

Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker

Marverson: No doubt, HBK has gotten Taker’s number, but the 17th WM win is on the way … HBK will get him in other PPV’s … Hell in the Cell 2 looks promising.  WINNER: Undertaker

Erniel Vicente: The build up for this match has been great, but I doubt that anyone believes that Shawn is the one who is going to end the streak. I don’t think anyone is ever going to end the Undertaker’s undefeated streak – ever. WINNER: Undertaker

Ricardo Mejias: Well, I’m a betting man and the odds are really favored on Taker’s side winning. This feud has been really interesting. I just can’t see HBK winning here especially since he has had the upper hand in the recent encounters with the dead man. So, my pick is The Undertaker and keep the streak alive. WINNER: Undertaker

Baby X: Taker wins. WINNER: Undertaker

Ricky From The Chi: Of all the 9 matches on this year’s card, this one has had the best build up on TV. It’s an inter-promotional match with the Undertaker’s historic 16-0 ‘Mania streak on the line. His opponent is “Mr. WrestleMania” himself, Shawn Michaels. I’m looking for HBK to do the job here but I hope he can go down looking good. His past 2 ‘Manias weren’t that impressive. Come to think of it, his last great WM match was with Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 22 in Chicago. Anyways, Mean Mark is not losing to anyone soon unless he will put someone over the top like Andre did for Hulk at WrestleMania III. WINNER: Undertaker

WWE Champion Triple H vs. Randy Orton

WWE Champion Triple H vs. Randy Orton

Marverson: Expect run-ins by the McMahon family and Legacy … since Vickie made the match if Triple H loses by DQ or count out RKO will win the title, I predict Stephanie will over rule it and make it an anything goes match … Triple H will retain the title at WM …. other than Cena, Triple H will be the only one to defend his Heavyweight title successfully at WM. WINNER: Triple H

Erniel Vicente: This is going to be a great match with solid workers. It’s just too bad that the Championship belt has been forgotten in this feud. I don’t know if the bosses’ son is going to lose again at WrestleMania, but Randy Orton should win to bring Legacy to the next level. WINNER: Randy Orton

Ricardo Mejias: I’ll take HHH to win here. He’ll probably take two RKO’s but still win with the help of his in-laws. WINNER: Triple H

Baby X: This is my prediction. Orton wins and becomes part of Vince McMahon’s family. Vince, Shane and Steph screw over Hunter. WINNER: Randy Orton

Ricky From The Chi: HHH vs. RKO – this is another recycled feud. But then again, there has been some fairly decent build up for this program. Everyone is saying this is Orton’s year. It’s probably true but his Legacy crew is no Evolution. I don’t think fans will be convinced if Rhodes or DiBease interfere and help their leader out. I’m looking for a big swerve tonight – one of the McMahon clan members including his wife mightl turn on Hunter and help Randy get the WWE belt. WINNNER: Randy Orton

WWE: Triple H wins 13th World Title, Edge loses World Title and wins WWE Title in the same night (02/15)

February 16th, 2009 | By Rick From Chicago

Edge wins WWE Title at No Way Out 2009

Edge wins the WWE Title at No Way Out 2009

Triple H wins World Heavyweight Title at No Way Out 2009

Triple H wins the World Heavyweight Title at No Way Out 2009

The WWE pulled a double swap on their championship titles at the No Way Out PPV.  If you follow this product closely, this PPV had to be one of the weakest cards in quite some time – leading into WrestleMania, their biggest pay-per-view of the year.

This year’s roster is again in transition, they still need the veterans to headline majority of the pay-per-views while the young talent continue to make a name of themselves as they build their following.  Hunter’s 13th title win brings him closer to Ric Flair’s all-time 16 time championship titles record.  Who will The Game face at WrestleMania 25?  For the first time in a long time, the writers have kept quiet on their plans for the main event at ‘Mania.

And judging by Edge’s dramatic win in the Raw main event, it looks as if he is on a collision path to wrestle Randy Orton, who will be the main focal point at ‘Mania.  RKO defeated Shane McMahon last night in a filler match for the NWO card, which like I said was pretty weak (Only 4 matches were promoted).

It seems like the WWE has a lot invested in Edge, in the last 3 years they have put him in the big spots and he has constantly delivered.  On a night where he lost his WWE title in the opening match, the show ended with him winning the World Heavyweight title.  Rey Mysterio was the final participant for the Raw Elimination Chamber match – a good showing despite being a mid-carder for the past few months.

It seems like title changes are happening left and right in the WWE universe.  What’s next for the 25th anniversary of WrestleMania?  We’ll see, but by the looks of things, I don’t think this year’s card will deliver.
